The CMS Adminstrator has upheld that there is no Medicare bad debt reimbursement to be paid for items paid under a fee schedule, e.g. Part B therapy. (CCH in their July 1, 2008 Medicare and Medicaid Guide).

IME/GME (Medical Education) Reimbursement

In the July 1, 2008 CCH Medicare and Medicaid Guide, CCH reports that Medicare HMO days must be billed to standard Medicare too (as a no pay bill) to be counted as Medicare days for IME and GME payments.

CCH reports in their August 12, 2008 Medicare and Medicaid Guide that effective 10/1/08, Medicare will not pay hospitals for ‘never events’- specific medical conditions caused by medical errors or failure in care at the hospital.
