There have been changes to the reimbursement of Medicare Bad Debt to Skilled Nursing Facilities.

For a SNF dual eligible bad debt reimbursement, percentages of reimbursement will be as follows:

COST REPORT PERIODS beginning on or after

10/1/12 – 88% of claimed bad debt of dual eligibles

10/1/13 – 76% of claimed bad debt of dual eligibles

10/1/14 – 65% of claimed bad debt of dual eligibles

For SNF Non-Dual eligible bad debt reimbursement, percentages will be as follows:

COST REPORT PERIODS beginning on or after 10/1/12 – 65% of claimed bad debt.
