When is My 2020 Cost Report Due?

Once again, due to the COVID-19 PHE, Medicare cost reports due dates have been delayed by CMS to give facilities who are burdened by health care work adequate time to gather their information and process their reports.

For any cost report period ending between 3/1/20 and 12/31/20, the cost report due date will be extended by 60 days.

This means that the extended cost report due date for FYE 12/31/2020 cost reports will be August 2, 2021.

This applies to all cost reports for hospitals, hospices, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), home health agencies (HHAs), FQHCs, RHCs, CMHCs, ESRDs, OPOs, and histocompatibility labs, and also to home office cost statements.

Providers need not request an extension from their MACs; extensions will be granted automatically.

Information can be found in the CMS Frequently Asked Questions on page 105, Cost Reporting question 1: https://www.cms.gov/files/document/03092020-covid-19-faqs-508.pdf.
